We call for stricter planning controls for on-shore windfarms and believe that whilst Great Britain needs to produce more renewable energy, on-shore wind-farms are not the answer.

Responsibility is a very Conservative principle - and everyone believes that each generation should leave the planet in better shape for the next and look after the environment.

However the "environment" is not just the air that we breathe and the water that we drink, important though those things are. It also is the countryside where we live - how green it looks, how natural it feels and the wildlife that live there.

There is, without doubt, more need for renewable energy - but on-shore windfarms are not the answer. Like or loathe how they look, you can't get away from the fact that when the wind stops blowing, you still need the national grid to be producing 100% of the UK's energy requirements by other means. And, as research by the Renewable Energy Foundation shows, the sudden fluctuations in demand caused by power intermittently coming from on-shire wind turbines make our traditional power stations less efficient (you have to fire them up quicker and more often!)
